COMMON QUESTIONS

What driving schools want to know

Does VR training replace driving lessons?

No. Your required driving lessons remain entirely unchanged. The German Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt M 348, 2024) concluded that a complete replacement of real driving hours is not possible at this time. SafeRoad VR Phase 1 is supplementary observation training: your students sharpen hazard perception, right-of-way judgment, and decision-making before they sit behind the wheel. The German Road Safety Council (DVR board resolution, 17 October 2024) explicitly recognises VR headsets as a supplementary training tool. Phase 2 (from 2027) may open further regulatory pathways. For now, VR scenario training works with your required hours, not instead of them.

What does SafeRoad VR cost after the pilot program?

325 EUR per month on the standard tier, or 299 EUR per month on an annual contract. Founding partners pay 254 EUR per month: 15 percent below the annual rate, locked for 24 months. Schools in practice charge students 25 to 50 EUR for a 45-minute VR session. Run the math: 50 students, four sessions each, and you net over 2,000 EUR per year after software costs. SafeRoad VR is a profit centre, not just a line item. For hardware acquisition, Saxon funding programmes apply. EFRE-Heranführung (SAB Sachsen) subsidises eligible investments up to 60 percent. We confirm your eligibility together before any contract.

What happens with my students' data?

All training data stays locally on the device first. No automatic cloud upload, no telemetry, no biometric recording. We capture head movement in six degrees of freedom, decisions, and reaction times: pedagogical data, not personal profiles. The instructor dashboard shows first names only. Aggregated reports are shared only with your explicit consent as the driving school owner. The Quest 3S has no eye tracker; on the Quest 3, the eye-tracking feature is disabled in our application. A Data Protection Impact Assessment under Article 35 GDPR is completed before pilot launch. Privacy by Design is built in from day one, and you receive a data processing agreement before activation. You retain full data sovereignty.
Does VR training replace driving lessons?

No. VR scenario training adds to your instruction. Mandatory driving hours stay the same. The BASt confirms: replacing real driving hours entirely is not possible at the current stage.

What does it cost after the pilot?

Starting at 325 EUR per month. Annual contract: 299 EUR per month. You can charge students 25-50 EUR per VR session. With 50 students and 4 sessions each, that adds up to over 2,000 EUR net profit per year.

Do I need technical knowledge?

No. The headset works on its own. Power on, pick a scenario, go. We set everything up on-site and walk you through it in under an hour.

Can students practice at home?

Yes. The headset runs on battery and goes anywhere. Students train at your school and at home. Progress syncs when the device reconnects.

Will my students feel motion sick?

Every scenario uses a seated position. Your student sits and observes. No walking, no fast camera movements. With modern standalone headsets, fewer than 15% of users stop mid-session. They can take the headset off at any time.

What happens with my students' data?

All training data stays on the device. No automatic cloud upload. We store only first names. We share anonymized reports only with your explicit consent. Fully GDPR-compliant.

How do you handle hygiene with shared headsets?

Every kit includes a washable silicone facial interface and disinfectant. Cleaning takes under 2 minutes between students.
